※Have accomplished the role of transport for economy and culture as the route to conbine Nagashima and Amakusa since Taisho era,
especially cotributed for actualizing the Black Seto Big Bridge to conbine Nagashima and Mainland Kyushu with the launch of the car ferry in 1967.
Currently, it is an important route as a national highway ferry conbine Kagoshima and Nagasaki with Amakusa as the point of contact.


Corporate history
February, 1955
Established Sanwa Merchant Vessel Co., Ltd. by consolidating the Nagashima-Ushibuka route.

February, 1966
Built Tencho maru(166t), operated it on the Kuranomoto-Ushibuka route.

May, 1974
Narushio maru(366t) and Uzushio maru(366t) went into service on the Kuranomoto-Ushibuka route.

Two vessels were operated on the route.


May, 1974
Movable bridges were opened on the Ushibuka port and Kuranomoto port.

January, 1980
Took over the Hondo-Minamata route and Kirishima Maru (130t) passenger car ferry went into service.

January, 1984
The 8th Ehime (199t) passenger car ferry went into service on the Hondo-Minamata route.

March, 1986
Built Tencho maru (488t) and it went into service on the Kuranomoto-Ushibuka route.

February, 1993
Built a double-headed ferry No. 2 Tencho Maru (577t) and it went into service on the Kuranomoto-Ushibuka route.

December, 1995
Hondo-Minamata route was abolished.

October, 2001
Completed renovation of Kuranomoto Port Waiting room.

September, 2008
One ferry system on the Kuranomoto-Ushibuka route (10round trips 20 ferries)

October, 2010
Based on the full opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen in March 2011, shuttle bus service from Kuranomoto to Izumi station
demonstration experiment operation started.
